of costumes

and finery of the world

A new feature in 2024 is the Museum of Costumes and Ornaments of the World.
Like its neighbor, the Musikenfête museum, this new space was born out of the Montoire-sur-le Loir International Folklore Festival.

This show-museum is located in a beautiful 15th century building. If you don’t know much about music, you will be able to learn by guessing where instruments come from… The owners will warmly receive you and share their passion for music.

A rich collection of costumes, finery and jewelry from all over the world to discover on 2 floors in a beautiful setting in the historic heart of Montoire-sur-le-Loir: the Augustinian Convent, a 15th-century building just opposite the Musikenfête World Music Museum.

A unique collection, built up over 50 years of exchanges and encounters around the world by two enthusiasts, Adeline and Jean-François Proux, creators of Musikenfête and the Montoire International Folk Festival.

Many costumes and traditional ornaments from China and India, as well as festive and stage costumes from South America, Africa, Southeast Asia and Europe are on display in this brand-new museum, in a varied and attractive scenography.

Over a hundred precious costumes from every continent, donated or purchased by Jean-François & Adeline Proux.
Some of these costumes have a moving history, like that of an Indian dancer who came to the festival in the 90s, a true activist for the status of women in India, and who left the outfit on display in this museum.

Amidst all these hand-embroidered and handcrafted pieces in shimmering colors, several are exceptional, such as the one worn by the royal court of Laos.
