The botanical house of Boursay | Office de Tourisme de Vendôme

Opened in 2000 thanks to the motivation of local volunteers, sharing their love for both their region and nature, the botanical house is located in the heart of the Perche Vendômois area, set in a rural landscape: hilly hedgerows, pleached hedges, pollarded trees, sunken paths, scattered habitat…

Three different routes
(pollarded trees, botanical, discovery roads)

Thanks to information points this 2.5 km long trip in the hedgerows will allow you to discover the different elements of an environment molded by men over the centuries.

The botanical house

The botanical house offers a rich and diversified program of activities: field trips and workshops (wood, basketwork…) and a permanent exhibition called “pollarded trees” from Chaumont, Choue, Arrou, Droué and Boursay. Pruned by several generations of countrymen and serving diverse purposes, pollarded trees, year after year modify their shapes each according to the kind of tree…

Pollarded trees

The shaded botanical path is a typical Perche wooded landscape. You will be surprised by the funny-looking trees along the path just outside of the botanical house.

They are called pollarded trees (trognes). They are regularly pruned to the same level to get wood, forage or fruits.
