An original way to visit Vendôme castle

The remains of the château still visible today date back to the 12th century.
The ramparts are dominated by the tower known as Poitiers, the main bastion of a defensive system reinforced in the 15th century.
Nothing remains of the vast dwellings, built in the 15th and 16th centuries and home to the counts and later dukes of Vendôme. Indeed, despite major works carried out in the 17th century on the orders of Duc César de Vendôme, acknowledged son of Henri IV, the château was neglected in the 18th century.
During the French Revolution, the château was divided into several parcels and sold to various owners, who demolished the seigneurial residences.
In the 19th century, this transformation finally led to the creation of a green space, which has been open to the general public since the 20th century.
And today, it’s your playground to complete your mission!
